Origin Snickerdoodle Tahini Date Smoothie

The combination of ground sesame paste and dates has deep roots in Middle Eastern cuisine, often forming the base of beloved sweet treats like halva. By fusing this ancient, nutrient-dense flavor pairing with the heavy cinnamon notes of a classic American snickerdoodle cookie, this modern fusion beverage embraces the globally recognized nutritional power of Medjool dates, offering high amounts of dietary fiber and natural energy.

Why I Love This Recipe

I love how this smoothie completely satisfies a sweet tooth while delivering a substantial dose of healthy fats and plant-based protein. It requires absolutely no dairy to achieve a thick, milkshake-like consistency, making it a fantastic, jitter-free alternative to sugary coffee house drinks that dietitians frequently recommend in guides for sustained-energy breakfast smoothies. Plus, a tiny pinch of sea salt elevates the caramel notes to a whole new level!

Ingredients

  • 1 large ripe banana (sliced and frozen)

  • 2 large Medjool dates (pitted)

  • 1 tbsp creamy tahini (stirred well)

  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (plus extra for garnish)

  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract

  • 3/4 cup unsweetened oat milk (or almond milk)

  • A small pinch of sea salt

  • 1/2 cup ice cubes

Directions

  • Ensure your Medjool dates are pitted. If they feel a bit hard or dry, soak them in hot water for 5 minutes, then drain before using.
  • Add the oat milk, pitted dates, and creamy tahini to the pitcher of a high-speed blender. Blend these together first for about 20 seconds to completely break down the dates.
  • Add the frozen banana slices, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, sea salt, and ice cubes.
  • Blend on high speed for 60 seconds until the mixture is incredibly smooth, thick, and creamy.
  • Pour immediately into a glass, dust the top with an extra pinch of ground cinnamon, and enjoy cold.

Notes

  • Blender Tip: Blending the dates with the liquid first is the secret to a perfectly smooth drink without any sticky bits left at the bottom of your glass.

  • Storage: Because bananas oxidize and change flavor over time, this smoothie is best enjoyed fresh immediately after blending.
